Coconut Chutney (Thengai Thuvayal)

Coconut chuney, Thengai thuvayal

Thengai thuvayal (Coconut Chutney) is a dish that doesn’t need any cooking. Not even tampering. The main ingredients of this dish are Coconut and fried Chana dal. Recipe is very simple. Grind all the ingredients and make a paste. That’s it.

Thengai thuvayal goes well with most of the South Indian dishes. It tastes great when you serve this with a tspn of ghee or sesame oil over hot white rice. When you are going to serve this thuvayal as side dish for pulihora rice (like Tamarind rice, Lemon rice, Mango rice), add a pinch of sugar while grinding which gives some mild sweetness to the thuvayal. The mild sweetness in thuvayal and the sourness in pulihora rice would give feast to your taste buds. Simple food, easy recipe, less time to prepare… Isn’t it? So what’s next? Go, try and enjoy.

Remember that, the taste of coconut changes in short time. So better finish off this thuvayal on the day you prepare.
