Dal Rice (Paruppu Satham)

Dal rice


  • Rice- 1/2 cup
  • Toor dal- 1/4 cup
  • Onion- 1
  • Tomato- 1
  • Green chili- 2
  • Garlic- 2
  • Curry leaves- few
  • Coriander leaves- 2 string
  • Cinnamon- 1 inch stick
  • Cloves- 2
  • Cumin seeds- 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp
  • Water- 2  cups
  • Oil and Salt- as required


  1. Heat Oil in a pressure cooker. Add Cinnamon, Cloves and Cumin seeds, fry for few seconds.
  2. Add Green chili and fry for few seconds. Then add Onion, Garlic and Curry leaves, fry till Onion turns into brown in color.
  3. Add Tomato and fry till it becomes soft.
  4. Finally add Rice, Dal, Turmeric powder, Salt and Water. Keep the stove in medium flame and allow 5 to 6 whistles (dal takes more time to cook).

Goes well with: Papad, Pickle
