Sweet pongal, Sakkarai pongal


  • Raw rice – 1 cup
  • Split moong dal(pasi paruppu)- 1/2 cup
  • Water- 4 cups
  • Cashew nut- 10
  • Grated Jaggery(vellam) – 1 ¼ to 1 ½ cup
  • Ghee- 5 spoons


  1. Cook the Raw rice and Moong dal in a pressure cooker.
  2. Heat 2 spoons of Ghee in a pan. Add Cashew nut fry till it lightly brown and keep aside.
  3. Heat 3 spoons of Ghee in a pan. Add cooked items and Jaggery.
  4. Smash the cooked items well with the Jaggery and Stir it continuously.
  5. Finally add the fried cashew nuts and stir for a minute.
