Tomato Curry (Thakkali Kulambu)

Tomato podi gravy, Thakkali Kulambu, Toamto Curry

Ingredients:

  • Tomato – 3 big (diced)
  • Tamarind – lemon size
  • Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1/4 tsp
  • Urad dal – 1/2 tsp
  • Fenugreek seeds – 1/4 tsp
  • Garlic – 6 cloves
  • Green chilli – 2 (finely chopped)
  • Chilli powder – 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Salt – to taste

Roast and Grind:

  • Pepper corns – 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Urad dal – 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander seeds – 1 tsp
  • Fenugreek seeds – 1/4 tsp

Recipe:

  1. Soak Tamarind in 1 cup of water and filter it.
  2. Heat a pan. Add Peppercorns, Cumin seeds, Urad dal, Coriander seeds, Fenugreek seeds and fry till it becomes golden brown. Then dry grind them into fine powder.
  3. Heat Oil in a pan. Add Mustard seeds, Cumin seeds, Fenugreek seeds, Urad dal, Garlic, chopped Chilli, Tomatoes, Salt one by one add and combine well.
  4. Then add Tamarind water, Chilli powder, Turmeric powder and ground Masala powder. Mix and allow to boil till desired consistency.

Goes well with: white rice.
